Wild in the Streets

Directed by Barry Shear. Starring Christopher Jones, Shelley Winters, Diane Varsi, Hal Holbrook, Millie Perkins, Ed Begley, Richard Pryor, Bert Freed. (1968, PG, 97 min.)

REVIEWED By Marjorie Baumgarten, Thu., Jan. 13, 2000

Crazed screenwriter Robert Thom (Death Race 2000, Bloody Mama) penned this AIP exploitation picture about what happens when the voting age is lowered to 14 and the new electorate votes in a fascist pop idol. It’s a dark, dark comment on 1968 youth culture, not always elegant to watch but unusual for its time. The cast is nifty and it features a young Richard Pryor in his first screen appearance.
