Death Race 2000

1975, R, 78 min. Directed by Paul Bartel. Starring Fred Grandy, Don Steele, Roberta Collins, Mary Woronov, Louisa Moritz, Sylvester Stallone, Simone Griffeth, David Carradine.

REVIEWED By Marjorie Baumgarten, Thu., Oct. 14, 1999

This is the one and only (even though there are plans afoot - with different talent - to make Death Race 3000). This is director Paul Bartel and writer Robert Thom at their most deliriously twisted, and producer Roger Corman at his most visionary. The story involves a car race in a futuristic society in which the idea is to mow down pedestrians. A pre-Rocky Stallone and the always divine Mary Woronov (Eating Raoul) make this road rage comedy an eternal delight.
