Austin Film Society: New Romanian Films: When Evening Falls on Bucharest or Metabolism

A director and his lead actress form a complicated relationship off-set during the production of their new film. Director Corneliou Porumbiou (Police, Adjective) is fond of using long takes that reveal as much to the characters as about them.

  • Tapestry Dance Company: Rhythm, Reason & Reality

    Jazz, R&B, and spoken-word works weave throughout this collection of rhythmic creations which includes the premiere a capella tap work “Anacruses," “Listen” (from Footprints), and additional dances from Voices of Rhythm, Ears Wide Open, and the NEA American Masterpieces production of The Souls of Our Feet.   • For Fear the Glass May Shatter

    This operatic show explores the science and struggle around Nobel Prize-winning physicist Wolfgang Pauli, exploring themes of scientific criticism, competition and collaboration, concern for reputation, the social and personal politics of war, and the role of women in science and culture. Conceived and written by David DeMaris, developed through workshops with the cast and musical collaborator Emily Breedlove, this complex spectacle is directed by Bonnie Cullum for the Vortex Repertory Company.   • From the Pig Pile: The Requisite Gesture(s) of Narrow Approach

    This "interactive journey across a vast landscape of associate histories" features "original music, puppetry, dancing, marauding, a Yeahoh sighting, and enough champagne for everyone," with the whole thing scripted, as it were, by Sibyl Kempson and directed by Jenny Larson and Shawn Sides in a collaboration between Salvage Vanguard Theatre and those unstoppable Rude Mechs. Creations and contortions morphed over the course of three years by a cast and crew of fearless local notables, now unpacking in piles onstage. Through April 13. Thu.-Sun., 8pm.       This is South by Southwest for vintage rides. Cut your bangs, slick your hair back, and lace up your creepers, because the swinging music and parade of low-profile hot rods is nonstop.
