Another banner year for ATX’s “Man of the World,” beginning at the Austin Music Awards in March as host to Bruce Springsteen, spiking in June with the release of his third Tony Visconti collaboration, Big Station, and peaking in September at Grulke Fest with the four-alarm reunion by his True Believers. In preparation for a career celebration at the Moody to end the year, Alejandro Escovedo buckles down at his band’s South Congress incubator for two nights of velvet rock & roll. – Raoul Hernandez

As led by iconic frontwoman Patrice Pike and guitar guru Wayne Sutton, Sister 7 gained national audience in the Nineties not because of its funk-rock hybrid, but because the group wrote rock-solid jam jump-offs that continue to resonate locally two decades after forming. An old favorite playing a new room, the local quartet breaks ground at the new One-2-One Bar, transplanted from Downtown to South Lamar. Vocally sweet, musically snarling power trio Adrian & the Sickness opens. – Kevin Curtin

The Pharmacy

Psych-punk trio the Pharmacy records music in the same fashion it plays – short and sweet. October release Stoned & Alone was cut in a six-day recording session at home in Seattle, its 13 garage rock boppers lasting little over two minutes each. With this musical ode to a weed farm, the band has refined some of its more spastic tendencies. The Pharmacy’s grit comes well-matched by local punk melodics Bad Lovers, Pharaohs, and the three-female badasses Foreign Mothers. – Abby Johnston
