Something to Chew On

As season 2 of Bob’s Burgers was premiering on Fox last Sunday, several cast members – Eugene Mirman (Gene), Dan Mintz (Tina), Kristen Schaal (Louise), Larry Murphy (Teddy), and Kurt Braunohler – took the stage for the first of back to back SXComedy shows. It wasn’t a panel. Because as Mirman asked the audience, “Who would want to hear that?” Read More | Comment »

Papaquiles from the Munchie Mobile

Chances are that when Ryan Schierling and Julie Munroe cooked up a batch of chilaquiles with a nontraditional carbohydrate in their Seattle apartment a couple of years back, they would never have envisioned it being served from a food truck at all hours during SXSW. Read More | Comment »

It's Sunday Morning. Do You Know What Time It Is?

The Secretary and the Reading Rainbow

Last year's inaugural SXSWedu conference was a low-key, mostly in-state affair. Looks like SXSWedu 2012 is swinging for the bleachers, with the announcement that US Secretary of Education Arne Duncan joins child literacy icon LeVar Burton on this year's list of keynote speakers. sxsw: Schmoozing with Ed Ward, et al.

For beginners, it's best to start schmoozing with someone you already know. At worst, you may be bored for a few minutes or bore the other person. But then you move onto the next schmooze. If you're lucky, you'll become engaged in a wide variety of conversations. Talk to old friends and make new ones. Read More | Comment »

Margaret Cho Sex-Texts Her Mom

Last night when Margaret Cho took the stage at the Velveeta Room, we thought were ready, but honestly, we weren't ready! Although the set was unnaturally clipped, the folks at the Velveeta Room were movin' the acts through, Cho played three songs and did some traditional stand-up as well. Our favorite moment? A sex-text message sent, by accident, to her mom. Lots of jokes on the multiple meanings of "come" ensued. Enjoy one of the selections Margaret Cho played "Eat Shit and Die" below* Read More | Comment »
