From Beaumont to Australia

Texas Rollergirls book their 2011 travel schedule

From Beaumont to Australia

Roller derby isn't about where you are: It's where you're going that counts. The Texecutioners start their mileometer this weekend in Beaumont for the Governor's Cup, but with Texas Rollergirls' players packing for points from the Pacific North West to Australia, this could be the flat track league's busiest year.

The Texies face the winners of this morning's opening bout between Assassination City and New Orleans' Big Easy Rollergirls at 2.15pm. If you can't make it to the two-day Texas and Louisiana invitational, that bout and the whole weekend will be broadcast via Derby News Network.

Of course, when you say travel team in derby, that's the all-star team: The rest of the league will be racking up the air miles too. The Hustlers already have their first travel bout and travel win of the year under their belt, with last weekend's 142-91 victory over Arizona's Tent City Terrors. Here's what has been announced so far:

Feb. 26 Hell Marys versus Pikes Peak Derby Dames in Colorado Springs
April 2-3 Texecutioners at the Clover Cup in Denton
April 10 Hell Marys versus Cent-Tex Sirens in Temple
May 7 Texecutioners versus Philly Roller Girls in Philadelphia
May 20-23 Texecutioners versus Rose City, Rat City and the Oly Rollers
June 18 Hell Marys versus Psych Ward Sirens in Houston
July 23-30 Hotrod Honeys in Australia
Sept 30-Oct. 2 WFTDA South-Central regionals in Kansas City
Nov. 11-13 WFTDA Nationals in Denver

Expect more bouts to be announced throughout the season for all the home teams. Plus, if you don't feel like a road trip, just wait until July 16 when WFTDA 2011 championship hosts the Denver Derby Dolls visit Austin to take on the Texecutioners on their own turf.

Of course, this all costs money, so they are always looking for sponsors. Download their sponsor packet here. Don't forget, TXRG is a registered 501(c)3 charity.
