Alamo Drafthouse Gets a Little Girlier

Forever Fest will be held Nov. 1-3 at the Ritz

We thought long and hard about the best way to introduce the latest news from Alamo Drafthouse … and really, we only need three letters: OMG!

For five years, the Drafthouse team has hosted squee-worthy Girlie Night screenings – from Austenland to Mean Girls – but now it's finally taking that celebration of all things double-X-chromosomed and spreading it out over a full weekend.

Meet Forever Fest.

Girlie Night host and ForeverYoungAdult founder Sarah Pitre and Fons PR co-owner Brandy Fons have teamed up for the brand new festival, billed as "more thrilling than your first kiss, more fun than your first co-ed party and more memorable than your senior year." (So yeah, don't get it mixed up with its older brother, Fantastic Fest. The names sound similar, and it's the same theatre behind it all, but the lines at the ladies' room will be way longer here.)

It's a festival unlike any of the others around town: It's for all fans of female-centric pop culture – come channel your inner Damian, dudes – and the preliminary programming is looking good. So far, the slate includes everything from a Sixteen Candles screening (complete with "the ultimate '80s high school dance," natch) to "a mimosa-fueled salute to the hottest men in cinema." There will be movies, there will be books, there will be dancing, and – of course – there will be pictures of adorable animals. Just try not to hyperventilate.

Truly, it's "a festival that welcomes your inner teen while appreciating the fact that some things, like movies and people, just get better with age."

But first! Before you start calling all the girls from your bachelorette party and planning a weekend-long slumber party … They need a little help to get this boat afloat, and they're launching a Kickstarter campaign to help cover venue rentals and accommodations for guests.

Check out that effort, and stay tuned to all the festival news at www.foreverfest.com.
