Horror/thriller has big names and bigger ambitions

UPDATE: The Mangled team has informed us they've cancelled their current Kickstarter campaign, but stay tuned in case they relaunch.
Writer/director Lawrence Nelson is taking that mantra very seriously for his forthcoming psychological thriller, The Mangled. He's filming in the original Chain Saw house and pulling in big-name horror actors like Bill Moseley (The Devil's Rejects), Edwin Neal (Texas Chain Saw Massacre), John Dugan (Chainsaw again), Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes), and more.
When making a horror film in Texas, you know you've got big shoes to fill: The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is as big a hit 40 years later as it was when it was released. But as they always say, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em!
Not sold on the pedigree alone? Watch the pitch video below for a quick synopsis of the film's plot – "every family has its secrets," indeed! – and a rundown of some of the perks you can earn as a backer. With over three-quarters of a million dollars still to go before hitting their goal, the team here would appreciate anything you can mangle … er, wrangle.
Kickstart Your Weekend is a series intended to showcase Texas film and tech projects that are crowdfunding their way to a goal, be it distribution, a prototype, or production costs. If you have a project that we should know about, email us at filmflam@austinchronicle.com.
