The trek up the I-35 corridor is no picnic – Texan drivers really are the worst – but the trip was well worth it for a handful of Austin filmmakers who took home prizes at the Dallas International Film Festival.

Among the ATX filmmakers lauded at the long-running Dallas film fest: Yen Tan, whose film Pit Stop has already met with great notices at Sundance and SXSW (when we interviewed him), took the Texas Grand Jury Prize; Sean Gallagher’s Good Night received a Special Mention for Ensemble Cast (read more about how Gallagher’s cast and crew bonded during the shoot); Kat Candler’s “Black Metal” – another Sundance/SXSW alum – was awarded Short Grand Jury Prize; Hannah Fidell’s debut feature A Teacher won Narrative Feature Grand Jury Prize; and Lisa Kaselak, the former director of programming at aGLIFF, took the Silver Heart Award for her documentary Tomlinson Hill.
