Tomorrow night, the Paramount Theatre will be the best sports venue in town.
The University of Texas at Austin College of Communication's Texas Program in Sports and Media hosts the Austin premiere of 42, the forthcoming Warner Bros. film about the life and career of the late Jackie Robinson, whose joining of the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947 ended racial segregation in pro baseball. He is portrayed in the film by actor Chadwick Boseman.
Following the screening, TPSM will host a panel on the film, slated to Sharon Robinson, Jackie Robinson's daughter, and Branch Rickey III, grandson of the late Pacific Coast League president. Talmage Boston, the attorney and author of 1939: Baseball's Tipping Point who was inducted into the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame in 1997, will act as umpire.
… Er, moderator.
42 will have its Austin premiere Wednesday, March 20, 7pm, at the Paramount Theatre (713 Congress). The event is co-sponsored by the LBJ Presidential Library and Museum, the Paramount, and the Winstead PC law firm. The film will premiere nationwide in April, 66 years to the month after his MLB debut.
