Wayne White at the Violet Crown

Artist & Pee-Wee puppeteer at screenings tonight and tomorrow

Wayne White at the Violet Crown

If you see the new doc Beauty Is Embarrassing, you'll see a whole lot of award-winning multimedia artist Wayne White (the movie's about him). And if you see the movie tonight or tomorrow at the Violet Crown, you'll see even more of White – in person.

Now enjoying a theatrical run after its world premiere at the 2012 South by Southwest Film Festival, Beauty Is Embarrassing is an engrossing portrait of the artist, with some very cool archival footage, including that of the Eighties East Village apparent den of iniquity that was the first year of Pee-Wee's Playhouse ("coke burnouts" come up). The movie's terrific – we have a lot more to say in our 3.5 star review, out on stands today – and it offers irrefutable evidence that Wayne White nows how to hold a room rapt.

He'll be in attendance at the evening screenings today (10/5) and tomorrow (10/6) at the Violet Crown. Tickets are going very, very fast, so get on it.
