They have a couple dozen more to go before their number of screen collaborations equals that of the famous acting/directing duo, John Wayne and John Ford, but Johnny Depp and Tim Burton have now made eight films together, including today's release of Dark Shadows.

Whether playing the Mad Hatter or Willy Wonka, Ed Wood or Edward Scissorhands, Ichabod Crane or Sweeney Todd, Depp has always been Burton's go-to guy for embodying the filmmaker's wildest creations. The collaboration began in 1990 with Edward Scissorhands, which is the only one of their films that predates the Chronicle's online movie review database. Links to all the other reviews follow: Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Tim Burton's Corpse Bride, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and Alice in Wonderland.
