Even if we can't nail down precisely what the dang thing is called – The Show!, The Show! Austin, or The ShowGO, we dunno – we can say with absolute confidence that the local film/arts/comedy showcase is doing interesting work.

Mostly its métier has been providing a venue for short films and standup via its monthly showcase at the 29th St. Ballroom, and there's just one of those coming up this weekend on Jan. 14. The show focuses on three sci-fi-inflected web series and one short, including the world premiere of a new episode of Alan Ray's Shadow 44, an episode of Mark Gardner's award-winning series Cell, Amy Quick Parrish's super-powered series Into Dust, and Jason Wehling's short "The GrownUps." Also on the bill, sketch comedy from the New Movement with special guest Spirit Desire.

But the Show! is baby-stepping something else out with its The Show! Presents feature film series. Last month, the group screened Stephen Belyeu's Dig, and now they plan to screen UT alum Mitch Schultz's DMT: The Spirit Molecule on Jan. 18 at the Barton Creek AMC, with the filmmaker in attendance and giving a post-film talk.
