Friendly starving experimental filmmakers on the loose.
Friendly starving experimental filmmakers on the loose.
No plans for this Sat., Aug. 28? Then we highly urge you to check out the Austin School of Film's "Friendly But Starving III," a celebration of local avant-garde and experimental filmmaking that proves Austin's underground cine-scene is alive and kicking against the mainstream pricks.

The event, which kicks off at 8 pm and doubles as the Grand Opening of the new Austin School of Film digs at 1634 E. Cesar Chavez St., will feature works by Noah Bissett, Steven Butera, Cougar Garza, Roger Gordon, Matthew Hardesty, Forester Keeton, Faiza Kracheni, Morgan O'Brien, Sam Phillips, and Bryan Taylor.

Explains ASoF's Youth Education Coodinator Kracheni, "This time all films are shot on Super 8 and hand processed by the creator. We have a lot of repeat students from the last screening whose films have exceeded expectations and are far more complex than the last bundle."

The artists/filmmakers will be in attendance for a post-screening Q&A, and, knowing the Cinemaker Co-op roots of ASoF, this should be at the very least a mind-bending, ethereal, and altogether outstanding evening of outré dreamscapes, eerie and compelling imagery, and the perfect way to support both the brand-new and cutting-edge ASoF and their many talented filmmakers and artists.

For more info, check out their blog, the ASoF website, or call 512-236-8877.
