Progress Texas Plans to Expose You to the Koch Brothers

New doc on the secretive billionaires screens tonight

Progress Texas Plans to Expose You to the Koch Brothers

After hearing so much about the infamous Koch Brothers across election season, you may still be wondering: Exactly who are this billionaire duo, and exactly how did they start buying and selling democracy?

Tonight, Dec. 2, Progress Texas will be hosting a special screening Koch Brothers Exposed. That's the latest work by documentarian/provocateur Robert Greenwald, who has previously targeted war profiteering (Iraq for Sale), Rupert Murdoch's media empire (Outfoxed) and the impact of big box stores Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price).

Even their fiercest enemies have to admit that the Koch Brothers have been geniuses at going state-by-state to inflict their anti-worker, anti-regulation, anti-democratic agenda. Without their cash, catspaw organizations like Americans for Prosperity would just be fringe letter-writing campaigns: Instead, they're fringe groups with ranking Republicans like Attorney General Greg Abbott on speed dial. So, to tie the night to state politics, the screening will be followed by a special discussion between Progress Texas Political Director Phillip Martin, Rep. Garnet Coleman, D-Houston, and, yes, yours truly, representing the media.

Koch Brothers Exposed screens at 6.30pm, Dec. 2, at Alamo South Lamar, 1120 S. Lamar. Admission is free for sustaining members of Progress Texas: Tickets for non-sustaining members are $20, but that includes $10 credit toward food and drink.

More details at progresstexas.org. Tickets available now via the Alamo Drafthouse.
