By now we hope you're up to speed on Democratic National Convention happenings thanks to Jen Sorensen's coverage from Charlotte, N.C. – if you're not, now's your chance – but if you want to get closer to the action, the Travis County Democratic Party is here to help.

At 7pm tonight at TCDP headquarters (2406 Manor Rd., www.traviscountydemocrats.org), join in and watch San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro deliver the keynote address. Castro joins first lady Michelle Obama, who also speaks tonight. Free food will be provided, but feel free to give something back by helping man the phone banks trying to rustle up some support for Barack Obama's presidential re-election campaign.

Castro is the first Latino to give a DNC keynote speech, and he joins the distinguished ranks of former keynoters such as Rep. Barbara Jordan and Sen. John Glenn (1976), former Gov. Ann Richards (1988), and Obama himself (2004, then Illinois' state senator).

The DNC runs through Thursday, Sept. 6. Get more details at the official site, where you can also stream events live, and keep your eyes on the Newsdesk blog for more updates from the field.
