Presidential Visit Causes Road Closures and Bus Detours

In anticipation of Tuesday's visit to Austin by President Barack Obama, Cap Metro has released a list of bus routes that will be detoured and downtown streets that will be closed.

Presidential Visit on July 17 to Cause Road Closures, Bus Detours
Nine Bus Routes Will be Detoured within Downtown Area
Austin, Texas, July 16, 2012 – In anticipation of the presidential visit to Austin tomorrow, the Austin Police Department and U.S. Secret Service are coordinating road closures during the event. President Obama is scheduled to make appearances and visit two locations in Austin tomorrow afternoon.
Capital Metro service will be detoured within the following perimeters: 5th Street, Congress, Lamar and Riverside. As a result, nine bus routes are scheduled to be detoured from around 1 p.m. until approximately 8 p.m.
The following routes are currently scheduled for detours. Please be advised that these detours may be altered or cancelled per the direction of the APD and the U.S. Secret Service:
#3 Burnet/Manchaca (southbound)
#110 South Central Flyer (southbound)
#171 Oak Hill Flyer (northbound & southbound)
#935 Tech Ridge Express (northbound)
#970 Lantana Express
#982 Pavilion Express (northbound & southbound)
#983 N. U.S. 183 Express (northbound & southbound)
#985 Leander/Lakeline Direct (northbound)
#987 Leander/NW Express (northbound)
The major corridors, César Chavez, IH 35, Congress and Lamar, are not expected to be affected.
Signage will be posted at each affected bus stop alerting passengers to the detours and providing alternative stops, and information is also available on Metro buses. Passengers can pick up their bus at any bus stop along the detoured routes.
Specific detour information is available on the Capital Metro website at www.capmetro.org in the “Service Alerts” section on the main page. Riders are urged to check the website for the latest detour information or call the GO Line at 512-474-1200 prior to beginning their trip. Updated information will also be available on the Capital Metro Twitter feed at @CapMetroNews.
