The Green Party of Texas (txgreens.org) this week released its slate of 56 statewide candidates in advance of its June 9-10 convention in San Antonio.
Only one of those 56 is from Travis County – Bill Stout for District 21, U.S. House of Representatives – but the redistricting maps that split Travis County across five Congressional districts mean you might also make note of these others vying for a spot in the U.S. House of Representatives:
• Fidel Castillo (Bexar County), District 21
• Meghan Owen (Bexar County), District 35
• Roger Quannah Settler (Lubbock County), District 25
As for the other races of note that would affect local voters:
Two Texans made their way to the list – Rhett Smith (Bexar County) and Star Locke (Cameron County) – but the other names are Roseanna Barr of Los Angeles; Jill Stein of Middlesex, Mass.; and Kent Mesplay of San Diego, Calif.
A Green Party Presidential Forum is scheduled for Saturday, May 12, at 9:30pm (Central). Since you'll still be in the voting mood after having participated in Austin's municipal election (ahem), livestream the forum here.
Travis County is divvied up across districts 5 and 10 for the SBOE, and Bexar County's Irene Meyer Scharf is up for District 5.
• Chris Christal (Bexar)
• David Courtney (Harris)
• Jim Chisholm (Harris)
• Charles E. Waterbury (Collin)
The Green Party's state convention will be held at the Grey Forest Scenic Clubhouse, 18249 Sherwood Trail, San Antonio, on June 9 and 10. The agenda for the weekend includes electing state delegates to the national convention (July 12-15 in Baltimore), electing officers, and more.
