Think you might be interested in adopting a cat (or pup), but you're still just not sure? Why not foster!

As it happens, the Town Lake Animal Center is in "urgent" need of new foster families for an influx of kittens that have been brought to the shelter. "An influx of kittens is not unexpected since springtime is mating season for cats, but the large numbers are more than anticipated," Chief Animal Services Officer Abigail Smith said in a press release. "This is an ideal opportunity for those not ready to make a lifetime commitment with a pet, but still would like to help an animal on a short-term basis." (Indeed, Austin's other rescue agencies – including the Austin Humane Society and Austin Pets Alive! – are also seeking additional foster homes for dogs and cats.)

Foster caretakers are usually needed for at least two to four weeks; TLAC will pay for medical costs and will provide food for the animals.
