With the bulk of the media and political attention still concentrating on the governor's race, it's still worth remembering that there are down-ballot races. With corporate attorney Holly White Turner handing in her paperwork, Travis County now officially has a Republican House hopeful.
Today's only big local filing was Rep. Dawnna Dukes, D-Austin, who had her paperwork ready but was busy last week with her new daughter, Leila.

Outside of Travis, the big Central Texas news remains that Republican Ben Bius has filed his challenge to returning Sen. Steve Ogden, R-Bryan, confirming a potentially ugly primary. Meanwhile, Georgetown Republican Rep. Dan Gattis' House District 20 seat has drawn three GOP filers (surgeon/businessman Charles Schwertner, former comptroller's office employee Patsy Williams, and former Cedar Park mayor pro tem Stephen Thomas), ensuring a WilCo GOP primary free-for-all.
