SXSW Rolls Out Sixth List

Another Friday, another list of acts headed to Austin for South by Southwest. The mega-festival creeps just five weeks away now and today’s list of 126 artist additions – highlighted by Moby Grape great Peter Lewis, raging L.A. power duo Deap Vally, and neo-retro Latin rockers Chicano Batman – brings the running total to roughly 1,303.

Five more weekly lists – and likely some late-breaking headliner announcements – await.

Also added to the SXSW 2017 music docket: catchy Okie rock breakouts Broncho, thrashcore metallurgists Ringworm, hip-hop/soul duo Oshun, budding Brooklyn femcee Young M.A., and Nickel Creek songstress Sara Watkins, playing Antone’s this coming Thursday. Other stateside acts joining the fray include the epic EDM sounds of Infinity Shred, hot experimental metal band Tombs, BET-exposed gospel breakout Alexis Spight, Nashvillian heavy garage songsters Pujol, and American Music Club singer Mark Eitzel.

While early lists come flush with more foreign talent, today’s bulletin features plenty of international intrigue: keyboard pumping post-punks We Are Wolves fly down from the Great White North, while Charly Black brings his energetic club pop from the rural regions of Jamaica. Meanwhile, Grandpa Death Experience explores the dirty, dark, bizarre corners of Dutch rock, young Alvaro Diaz of San Juan shows us what the cutting edge of Puerto Rican rap sounds like, and Los Outsaiders promote Peruvian garage-rock.

Locally sourced selections continue proving strong with alt-classical explorers Graham Reynolds & Golden Arm Trio, Lindsey Mackin’s rising psychy rock gang Annabelle Chairlegs, soulful jam rockers the Bright Light Social Hour, and deluxe Americana rocker Jesse Dayton leading the latest list.
