South by Southwest remains the end-all, be-all of music festivals, but locally, it's only the first one of every year, followed closely by Old Settler's, Pachanga!, Chaos in Tejas, and for our purposes today, Psych Fest, which just announced its April 27-29 line-up at Emo's.
As you can see, psych-songwriter freaks Brian Jonestown Massacre, doom stoners Dead Meadow, cult-pop collective the Olivia Tremor Control, and S.F. Fillmore throwbacks Wooden Shjips lead the name game along with the festival's local flagship act, the Black Angels. The Reverberation Appreciation Society, which organizes, curates, books, and produces Psych Fest outdid themselves last year at the now-renovating Seaholm Power Plant. Here's how it went down.
