By Rob Cohen, 3:43PM, Fri. Jan. 7, 2011
2010 was a beautiful, mess, and now we must ruffle through the debris to start the new year fresh. Here goes.
FAGNETIC:
1) Death of DADT
One nonsense policy gone, about a million to go.
2) It Gets Better
3) Queerbomb
4) Cheer Up Charlie's
Austin's best new hang out for hip priests, Swatch dogs, and Diet Coke heads.
5) Lady Gaga's "Telephone" video
Tarantino ripoff goodness. Gaga makes videos an event again.
6) Pixies and Pavement in Austin
It was great to have these two indie godfathers in Austin. Love ya, Kim Deal!
7) Tuezgays
Tuesday is finally fun for once.
8) The Skype gay marriage
Punk rock.
9) Singing at the Magnetic Fields party
I was unprepared, intoxicated, and couldn't hear myself, but it was hella fun.
10) The Vigil in Purple
Activism at its sweetest.
FAIL:
1) The need for an It Gets Better project
2) Bobby Beltran's assault
If only I had been there I'd have kicked some ass! Puro Pace High School!
3) The deaths of Leslie Nielsen, Glenn Shadix, Zelda Rubestein, Malcom McClaren.
A comedy legend, two iconic character actors, and one of the gurus of punk rock are gone. :(
4) The death of Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse
Underneath his beautiful music there was always a melancholy that couldn't be escaped, even at its most joyful. Everyone should know who he is.
5) Teenage suicide
Don't do it, it's not big fun.
Andrew Shirvell
Bleh!Nerd!
7) Ricky Martin
He's a talentless fame ho.
8) Death of Ari Up
The punk queen is dead. She was not your "typical girl." Ari Up we salute you!
9) MAYA by M.I.A.
A noisy, uninteresting mess of an album by a once compelling and tuneful artist.
10) My dating life
I'm running out of people to alienate.
