'Hey, You Gonna Eat, or What?' Truck Wins $10K

First annual Truck by Truckwest winner got a big check today

Austin's first ever Truck by Truckwest food truck taste-off attracted 1,400 cash-paying badge holders to a six-day food truck crawl. For a $20 fee, badge holders were able to try bargain-priced dishes from 65 local food trucks and vote on their favorite. The winner got a check for $10,000 at a ceremony this morning.

The winning truck is Hey, You Gonna Eat or What? owned by Eric and Lizziane Regan. Chef Regan serves gourmet sandwiches with a Texas and Southwestern spin. "I like Tex-ify everything we do," he reports. The $10,000 winnings were underwritten by the Wine & Food Foundation of Texas and will help him purchase equipment necessary to service the recent growth in his two-year-old food truck business.

In addition to the big win for Regan, a check for $3,100 from the event proceeds was presented to Brian Stubbs, founder of Austin Food for Life, a local non-profit dedicated to finding health care solutions for people who work in all aspects of Austin's food community. That presentation was made by event producer Brian Erickson, local consultant and business coach who is a big fan of the food truck community.
