Farmers Market Report: February 16-17

Artichokes are in! Two Happy Children Farm (Downtown) and Winfield Farm (Barton Creek) will both be bringing the season’s first artichokes to market this Saturday. Winfield Farm will also be bringing big gorgeous heads of crispy Romaine lettuce.
What better to make with Romaine than a gorgeous Caesar Salad? Gypsy Grove Foods (Mueller Market) makes an absolutely fantastic Caesar dressing ($6 a pint! An unbelievable bargain). It is so good it has convinced me to never make my own again. It is perfectly balanced and beautifully fresh. It is probably the best salad dressing I have ever bought at the Farmers Market.
Indian Hills Farm (Downtown) has the last of the Meyer Lemons for sale, I don’t think there are any more in the whole city. The also have beautiful pecans and little tubs of Pecan Butter!
Munkebo Farms (Downtown) has introduced a line of dried herbs, including oregano, bay leaves, lemon basil, and Bouquet Garni. It’s a great idea; fresh-dried herbs are far superior to supermarket herbs, and as far as I know no one else is doing them.
Celtic Seafare will be at Barton Creek this Saturday. This week their Smoked Salmon is from British Columbia, and their market specials will include Lemon Pepper Salmon with Poblano & Wildflower Honey, and Crusted Salmon with Jack Daniels-Roasted Pecan Pesto.
Peeler Farms Chicken (HOPE Market) was unable to come to Austin last weekend, and will be coming this Sunday instead.
Dewberry Farms will be at both Sunset Valley and Downtown this Saturday.
Dai Due Butcher Shop will be making Sausage and Oyster Gumbo as well as Buffalo Hump Sandwiches this Saturday. In the cold case, this week brings you Botifarra Blanca Sausage and Venison Bockwurst.
