How to Have a SUCCESSFUL Career in Art

Tips from those who have one

Success may be defined in many ways, but if you're applying it to a career as a visual artist, the term may well involve having a studio, working with galleries, and selling your work. If you're struggling with how to achieve that kind of success, take note: Over the course of four Wednesday nights, a pair of professional artists with experience and know-how will offer insights into How to Have a SUCCESSFUL Career in Art. Sponsored by the Austin Visual Arts Association, the workshop series features recent Central Texas transplants D.L. Tolar and Edward Povey (see "Not Weird but Real," May 22) sharing techniques and skills involved in establishing an artistic career and addressing such underlying threats as lack of self-confidence, lack of knowledge, and lack of facilities. The series runs on Wednesdays from Sept. 30 to Oct. 28, 7-9:30pm, at the Dougherty Arts Center, 1110 Barton Springs Rd. For more information, contact Kelli Montgomery at kelli@avaaonline.org.
