The 2005-2006 Austin Critics Table Awards
Fri., June 9, 2006
In the awards themselves, the Zachary Scott Theatre Center's production of Urinetown: The Musical took top honors, with six awards, including Production of a Musical. The rest of the awards were very evenly distributed among shows and exhibitions, with Match-Play, the Rude Mechanicals' theatrical take on Deborah Hay's dance The Match, the only other show to capture more than two awards.
Critics participating in this year's awards, covering the period from May 1, 2005, to April 30, 2006, were the Austin American-Statesman's Michael Barnes (arts), Jamie Smith Cantara (theatre/music), Clare Croft (dance), Randy Harriman (music), Erin Keever (visual art), Sondra Lomax (dance), David Mead (music), Tommy O'Malley (theatre), Joey Seiler (theatre), Jeanne Claire van Ryzin (arts), and Holly Williams (dance); and the Chronicle's Elizabeth Cobbe (theatre), Heather Barfield Cole (theatre), Patricia Hadad (theatre), Rachel Koper (visual art), Nikki Moore (visual art), Barry Pineo (theatre), and Robert Faires (arts). Obligatory ethical note: Critics refrained from nominating themselves or members of their families for any awards and refrained from voting in any category in which the critic or a family member was nominated.
