Paloheimo Heads West

The major change-ups in the Austin arts scene continue. On top of the news of the departures of General Manager Paul Kaine from Ballet Austin, Chief Executive Officer Sid Mallory from Austin Museum of Art, and Artistic Director Alice Wilson from the Zachary Scott Theatre Center comes word that Eva Paloheimo, managing director of Frontera@Hyde Park Theatre, will resign her position at the end of the month. Paloheimo leaves the company that she has managed for more than two-and-a-half years and the theatre space that she has booked, cleaned, supervised, sweated over, and cared for since autumn, 1991, to fulfill a longtime dream of living in New Mexico. Paloheimo says the decision to leave has been coming for some time, as she came to realize that Frontera has grown to a point where it needs personnel who can offer more support to the company than she can and that personally she had reached a point where time was running out for her to act on her dream. She sees the move as fortuitous for both parties, allowing for new blood in the company and an invigorating new direction for her. What that direction will be is something Paloheimo is still considering, though she notes that she would like to work with horses. She leaves Austin having made an impact not only on Frontera but on dozens of individual artists and small independent companies to whom she opened her theatre's doors.

Paloheimo's departure has given Frontera an opportunity to reorganize, and the company has opted to shift some of the managing director's duties to other staff members and hire a business manager to fill the rest. According to F@HPT, the business manager's duties will entail: managing and scheduling the use of all F@HPT facilities (the theatre, F@HPT business office, and rehearsal space); negotiating and executing contracts for facilities rental, staff and artists, co-productions, sponsored projects, Equity contracts, housing and travel; supervising box office/front of house management for Hyde Park Theatre and all F@HPT performance spaces; working closely with the artistic director on management and implementation of annual budget and with accounting personnel on daily operations and preparation of monthly financial reports for the board. Must be able to travel independently using personal vehicle and be able to lift 25 pounds. F@HPT is an equal opportunity employer. Applicants should send resumé to: Vicky Boone, 511 W. 43rd St., Austin, TX 78751. No phone calls.
