* TUE, OCT 24: Socio-political satirist P.J. O'Rourke - a writer whose wicked style inspired me to pursue this profession, then betrayed me by coming out of the closet as a Republican - will be at Book People to promote his memoirs, Age & Guile: Beat Youth, Innocence, and a Bad Haircut, 7pm. That'll be me at the back of the crowd, fuming but fascinated.

* WED, OCT 25: Tim O'Brien, author of In the Lake of the Woods, will be at Book-People for a reading and signing, 7pm.
